The crew

You join a token's crew by buying it on the bonding curve, before graduation. Every token you buy there adds to your crew balance. A creator buy made at launch counts too, which makes the creator the first crew member.

These do not add to your crew balance:

• Tokens bought in the pool after graduation.
• Tokens someone else sends to your wallet.
• Tokens bought in any pool outside Cru.

Crew balance you give up is gone for good. Before graduation you can still buy more on the curve, and those new crew tokens earn from that moment on. After graduation nobody can join the crew or add to it.

Every trade sends 0.35% of its value to the crew. How that amount is divided depends on whether the token has graduated.

• Before graduation, each trade's crew fee is split across everyone holding crew tokens at that moment, in proportion to their crew balance. When other crew members sell, your part of each new trade grows. When new buyers join, it shrinks.
• After graduation, the crew total is fixed at the number recorded at graduation. Your share is your crew balance divided by that fixed total, so it can only go down. When someone sells, the part they gave up goes to buyback and burn and everyone else's share stays the same.
• When nobody is in the crew, the crew fee goes to buyback and burn. That happens on a token's very first curve buy, and whenever every crew member has sold out before graduation.

Fees are counted before a buyer's new crew tokens are added, so nobody earns from their own buy. The fee on your buy goes to the crew that was already there.

Your crew balance can never be higher than the number of tokens in your wallet. Whenever your wallet balance drops below your crew balance, whether you sell, transfer or burn tokens, two things happen:

1. 1Your crew balance drops to match your wallet balance. You earn a smaller share of future fees, for good.
2. 2You forfeit the same fraction of your unclaimed rewards. If you give up half your crew balance, half of what you have not yet claimed goes to buyback and burn.

This applies wherever the tokens go: a sale on the curve, in the Cru pool, in any other pool, or a plain transfer to another wallet, including one you own. The rule lives in the token itself, so every app and exchange follows it.

If your wallet holds more tokens than your crew balance, for example because you also bought in the pool, the extra tokens are the first to go. You can sell or transfer that extra amount without touching your crew balance. The forfeit only starts once your wallet balance would fall below your crew balance.

A creator buy makes the creator a crew member like everyone else. If it was at least 0.05 ETH, the creator also earns the separate creator share. Both follow the same rule: when the creator's crew balance shrinks, their creator share shrinks by the same fraction. See Launching a token.
